Meet your Massage Therapist
I
am Jen Jaynes, a licensed massage therapist with four years of professional experience (and over a decade of enthusiastic amateur work!). I help you, the athlete or martial artist, to enhance your performance using therapeutic massage. I am centered on making your massage experience the best you’ve ever had, and continuing the benefits of your massage well after you get off the massage table and head back out into your life.
Massage Benefits Athletes
My experience with a Western martial art of sword fighting, and the associated aches andYou need a massage therapist who understands your needs. The musculoskeletal problems and goals of an athlete are very different from those of a non-athlete: improving range of motion for better performance, decreasing unwanted muscle tension to allow more explosive power, decreasing scar tissue, and recovery from intense competition.
I work with runners, triathletes, swimmers, horseback riders, soccer, baseball and volleyball players, and a wide variety of other athletes to help them reach their performance goals.
The Best Massage for Your Needs
Your massage begins with a discussion about your goals, your current situation, and any past problems that might be contributing to your current limitations. We talk about what massage can do and a program of massage that would best suit your needs.
Your massage will last the full length of time that
you booked- with me, an hour massage is an hour on the table for you. You’ll receive deep tissue and sports massage
techniques with a variety of other tools selected especially for your body’s
situation. Your massage will be deep and
effective, but without causing you excess pain.
Athletes often believe that “pain is gain,” but a massage that makes you
tense up from the pain isn’t helping you.
I make positive change in your body while creating no more discomfort
than a good workout.
After your massage is finished and you are up and dressed, we discuss what changes you feel and what self-care you can do at home to prolong the effects of your massage. Unlike some therapists, I don’t try to interview you while you’re getting a massage and trying to relax, and I don’t take the interview time out of your massage time.
Skills to Help You Meet Your Goals
I attended the well-regarded Muscular Therapy Institute (MTI) in Watertown, Massachusetts, and completed an intensive 900 hour training in massage—nearly double the minimum education to get a massage license in Massachusetts. I chose to attend MTI because it gave me a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology that I bring to every massage. I consistently attend workshops and trainings to add new skills and expertise to my massages, including special training on low back pain, deep tissue massage, and treating pelvic imbalances.Contact Me
